Isn't the Cougar phenomenon so 2009? Isn't it history yet?
Apparently not at the ad agency that put together the newest ad for Dr Pepper. Accompanied by a pop-jingle refrain "I gotta be me," people in the ad rip off their everyday clothes to reveal a red T-shirt with a self-describing logo in white. The first? "One of a Kind." The second? "I'm a dreamer." The third?
Bleech. And of course, the young hero of the ad gives our lady a second look. But! at the ad's end, he chooses the perky same-age brunette with the "I'm a Dr Pepper" Tee.
This cougar stuff? Aren't we all ready for it to end now?
I am also ready for this trend to come to an end. It stigmatizes genuine relationships and perpetuates younger man/older woman relationships as a sport.
ReplyDeleteSing it, Scott!
DeleteLove has no age, I love my relationship with my younger guy. He is 17 years younger and we have a great relationship. I guess we are not like men that they get young women just to show them off. I love him because he is smart, and really sweet. We have fun and we laugh a lot.
ReplyDeleteI read this post the other day and thought "cougar?" "What's a cougar?" I mean, besides the obvious mountain lion variety. I had never hear that term before. Then, a few days later, I heard it! Maybe I'll notice it more now...
ReplyDelete"What's a cougar?" What bliss not to have known! My apologies, Brenda, for opening your ears to it. I fear you'll come across it far more often now.
DeleteIf we're going to be stereotyped, at least we're stereotyped as hot and not as frumpy old bags. That would be soooo irritating.
ReplyDeleteIf this were Facebook, I would "like" your comment.
